Tectus Story

I have had my conceal carry permit for close to twenty years and in that time I have tried out a lot of different holsters  that were made to carry and conceal a pistol. They all worked well for carrying and concealing the weapon but I always ran into the same problem- they were uncomfortable. Any holster that went on my belt or inside my waistband was usually ok to wear while I was walking around but sitting down or getting into a car was impossible. Sometimes I would take the pistol off and set it next to me which could lead to a very unsafe situation, especially when my young son was in the car.

Eventually I settled on an ankle holster as the most comfortable way for me to carry a firearm. This was better than the other options, I could get in and out of the car or sit down in a restaurant or the office and not have a big piece of metal jabbing me in the side. However it would still slide down some times and I had to readjust it frequently because it would just slip or get loose.

A shoe cobbler had sewn some leather straps on some of the boots I wear so I could clip a knife on them. This was a good way to carry a knife that was too big for my pocket without having to put it on my belt for the world to see. Why wouldn’t attaching a holster to my boot work the same way?

With a Chinese hand crank leather sewing machine from E-bay and some scrap leather from Hobby Lobby, I started sewing holsters on all my boots. Some of the holsters I bought, but this got expensive so I started making my own. None of my designs seemed to work. They were all too uncomfortable becausee they rubbed my ankle or flopped around every time I took a step. Eventually I had to start buying used boots on E-bay because I had filled all my other boots with holes!

About a year later after a lot of trial and error, a way to attach the holster using a backing strap finally worked. Using this system and getting the stitching just right made this the most comfortable way to carry a pistol I had ever used. And it worked on any style of boot!
